Does an '85 Camaro that came stock with a 700r4 have a vacuum switch for the converter lock-up? If it does, what does it look like and where is it located?

I did a motor swap and now need to rewire the lock-up.

Thanks

I don't know of any cars that had a vacuum switch stock. Usually, the ECM controls lockup based on engine load. Take a look at http://www.digikey.com. They have a section in their catalog that has vacuum switches in them. But most of their switches are low current, so you'll want to use a relay to actually control the lockup solenoid.

I worried myself thinking I needed one of those switches when I installed my 700R4. That was before I got the car going. I find it very annoying when the car comes out of overdrive as the gas is pressed!! I plan on setting it up with full manual control of the lock up. If you don't have one I would try it without the vac. switch, then see if you find a reason get one. All IMHO.

I am also looking for a vacuum switch. i have been told on gm cehicles 80-82 is the only year that used them. i have found one vender that sells the swithces called raptor transmissions. what did you use for brackets for your tv cable?

If the '85 Camaro is a US edition, then no vacuum switch, it is ECM controlled. If it is a Northern edition it may have the vacuum switch (no ECM).

The vacuum switch # is: 14014519

Vehicles that used the vacuum switch typically ran a TVS and delay valve. The TVS prevented lockup until the engine temperature was above 115 or so.
