I had my driveshaft shortened(last year), and they cut a little too much off. I haven't taken it out yet, but I measured the yoke with the car setting level in the garage and I have about 1 3/4" sticking out of the rear of the tranny. I then measured a yoke from a 3rd gen and it measured about 3 3/4" from shoulder that bottoms out in the tranny to the tip end of the yoke. So, if my calculations are correct graemlins/clonk.gif , I have almost 2" in the tranny(if the yoke from a 69 camaro turbo350 and a 3rd gen 700r4 yoke are the same length.) Is that enough in the tranny? I have been told that I can get a longer yoke used by some dirt trackers. Would you guys recommend it? This car will be running drag radials with 360+/- rwhp. What do you guys think?
Thanks

I just went thru all this had harmonic issues. The drive shaft company in Baltimore told me to push the yoke all the way in and pull it back out 3/4" to an inch and then measure center to center of the u joints.I was told if the yoke is to far from the tale shaft it will vibrate...

so what you are saying is that 1 3/4 sticking out is too much right as this was in a running 69 convertible

There might not be enough spline contact which can lead to vibration problems. The original yoke is 3 3/4" long. Your driveshaft is about 5/8-3/4" too short according to Drive Line Service advice. You bring up an interesting question as to whether or not a 4 3/4" long yoke will work without issues. I would call Drive Line Service (925) 427-1200. Drive shafts are their specialty and they have been in business over 30 years.

so could that mean that if it is not in all the way and contacting the litte chuck keyway thing, or is it just too short cause the other thing is that i had my whole rearend out of the car along with the leafs so maybe it will pull it self forward do you think once I tighten everything up. Also it is sitting on ramps in the front about 14inches off the ground
