Anyone...
I have a 69 Camaro (BB396) with a M22 Muncie Rockcrusher. I have a problem which is this....my tranny operates fine, shifting and all but in the higher RPMs the tranny starts vibrating pretty bad. It is in the shifter knob and the tranny housing and produces quite a noise. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this might be and a probable fix?
Thanks for your time and suggestions
Tom

What does the car have for engine mounts and subframe bushings?? I've owned a couple of four speed cars with all solid mounts and they vibrate pretty badly. The only real solution is to keep the shifter in your hand!!! (which makes your arm go numb graemlins/clonk.gif but that's what you get for driving racing hardware on the street!! :D

It's probably not the trans but some other driveline vibration that's reaching the shifter. Make sure you dont have an exhaust pipe touching the crossmember, that will give you a strong vibration too.

Is the vibration related to engine RPM or MPH? Is there a specific gear it vibrates more in?

If its related to RPM (same RPM regardless of gear) it is probably engine or clutch flywheel related.

If it is related to vehicle speed then maybe it is the tailshaft bushing in the trans. Usually this vibration shows up at a specific speed and goes away when you go faster or slower. Like starts at 55 mph and goes away at 65 mph. An unbalanced driveshaft will do it too.

If its related to a particular gear then it might be time to go through the tranny.

Just a couple ideas.
