I was switching the B&M shift improver kit from HEAVY DUTY to STREET/STRIP and when i was taking the valve body down, I think this piece fell from the governor tubes.

I didn't know which one to put it in, or even if it is definitely from them, so i just left it out.
I have the big chevy service manual for my truck, but i left it at the autobody shop and still have to go get it, so i could'ny look the part up right away.
Question is should I worry about getting this filter back in? Or can I just wait until the next filter changer to replace it. Thanks

By the way, I definitely recommend B&M's shift improver kit and governor recalibration kit for the TH-400, my truck finally is able to use the crane camshaft without manually shifting the gears. I needed all the help I could get because I have 2.73's in the rear and 29" tires.

I would not worry about it! I normally pull them out anyhow. They are there to catch any debris that may go to the governor, as the governor sticking will cause havoc with shift points. In reality, if you have debris large enough to hold up the governor, you have more issues than just the extra filter will resolve. smile.gif

I'd put it back in. Especially after doing valve body work. If you happened to let a hair, or rag lint, or created a little burr when R&Ring the valve body, it could create havock in the govenor.

Chances are that you'll be fine. But the risk of having problems makes installing the screen good insururance IMHO. Perhaps the GM engineers were being extra careful. I'm more likely to believe that they had problems with their initial prototypes and added the screen.

Oops, just looked back at my reply and even though I don't use the screen, I did neglect to tell you it fits into the governor tube closest to the center of the trans, with the open end of the screen sitting at the end of the tube before it fits into the case. ;)
