I've got an aftermarket Hurst Comp-plus shifter (for a Muncie) that needs rebuilding. Has anyone rebuilt it themselves instead of paying the $100 to Hurst? What all is involved (what parts), how much does it usually cost, and how hard is it?
Thanks!

It isn't terribly hard but, it does take some time to get everything 'tuned' back in after you're done. I've done this laying on my back in the driveway several times and it's much easier if you remove the shifter and work at the bench.
Any of the speed shops (paw,summit,jegs-etc.) will carry the "Pit-Packs" (@ $10~12.oo) of bushings (nylon or steel-your choice), they have all the bushings and clips you need. If any other parts are bent/missing you can get most of them also.
The factory rebuild is well worth the $100 price. They disassemble the whole shifter and refit the pivots/shafts to original spec.s along with replacing bushings and realigning the rods. If you're shifter has performance issues and not just normal wear this would be a good investment.
These things are hung out under the car and get lots of exposure to things that cause lots of wear and problems. Proper routine cleaning, maintenance and care is required.
