quick couple of questions. when shifting into reverse on 4 speed, it sometimes makes a grinding noise and also when at a stop its sometimes hard to put it into first. unknown what trany it is newor old any suggestions car is a 69 396

I would carefully check the clutch adjustment to be sure it is correct.

Sounds like the clutch may not be completely disengaging when you push it in.

Before shifting into reverse, allow the car to come to a complete stop, then select fourth gear first, then select reverse.
This action stops the rotating gears from rotating to engage with gears "at rest," thus, the grinding heard/felt.
And as Vintage 68 suggests, check clutch adjustment, should be 3/4-1 inch of free pedal play at the top of the pedal.

Could be syncros in the trans - - double check the shifter adjustment as well too - will make it hard to shift in forward gears....
