I just put a M20 in my car along with a used hurst comp plus shifter. I borrowed the shifter from a friend and it worked good in his car before.

I adjusted the rods according to the posts that I read on here.

When I put the shifter in first it seems really high geared. First gear is definately higher than second. It feels more like third. The shifter moves very smooth and all the positions feel normal.

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?
Thanks

Sure you got the rods on the correct arms on the shifter? It sounds like you mixed up 3-4 and 1-2.

Upside down shift lever(s)?

I never really thought about it. Now that you say that about the shift levers, I think thats my problem. The lever that works the 1-2 part of the trans is on going up off of the shift rod where the lever for 3-4 is pointing down.

That makes sense, but for a newbie it is hard to figure out without help.

Thanks a bunch.

Doh!! Yup that's the problem!! The levers should definitel BOTH point "UP"!

But, you know that by now!! :D

Heck I went out today and pointed them both down and realized pretty quick that i was wrong again. Now they are both pointing up and working ok.

Thanks
