If so, does it say anything about the output shaft RPM and how it effects the up-shift point?

Anything about the governor?

My powerglide is shifting too soon and will not downshift. All the levers are there and adjusted properly. I am convinced that the original ratio was 2.56 or 2.73 and my upgrading to 3.55 has made the output spin faster throwing the governer adjustment off.

I have an appointment with the trans rebuilder on July 28th to see what he can do, but I would like to gather more info about the adjustment.

I could not find anything on on the web searches I've done.

Thanks, Kevin

Kevin, the OEM governor setups were factory balanced and assembled. I have not seen any aftermarket governor parts for 'Glides that I am aware of. You can tweak the shift point slightly with the modulator, or play with very slight weight removal from the governor primary and secondary weights. They are totally different in design than a 350/400 style, as the fit through the output shaft.

Steve, how about the throttle pressure linkage up to the carb? I was thinking, that as the governor spins up, the pressure increases, right? and the throttle pressure linkage works to hold that back until the governor pressure overcomes it. Am I close?
Then what I should be looking at it to put a stronger spring (or whatever) in the throttle position side of the equation.

Do you know how that part is set up?

I was also thinking since I cannot get it to kick down, that this was the area to look at instead of the governor.

I was able to change the upshift point be tricking the throttle pressure linkage to believe it was more WOT then I really was. Then it worked better.
What I would like to do now is put the throttle linkage back to factory spec adjustment and change something inside the trans to move the pressure point up.

Your thoughts?

Thanks as always, Kevin

You may be able to remove very slight amounts of weight at a time from the governor, and this will delay the 1-2 shift point. I would tell you to latch onto another one to have just in case! You will need to take a close peek at one to see how the weights work. I have an exploded view of one that I can e-mail to you if you want. Just e-mail me and let me know.
