Thanks Doug JimM Sep 20th, 04, 03:38 PM I had to move the console a lil... dnult Sep 20th, 04, 07:46 PM I don't know about the 69, but on the 68, the big U-shaped bracket in the frontward part of the console has some slop in it. You might have to lower the rear of the tranny a bit though to get to the bolts inside the tunnel. But after doing so, you and a buddy can lossen the bolts a bit and slop the console around +/- and 3/16" or so. Not sure if that is enough to fix your problem or not. Everett#2390 Sep 21st, 04, 01:28 AM When I put one in a 68 Camaro I owned many years ago, the same thing happened. Had I known to elongate the console mounting holes as mentioned by Jim & Dave, I would have taken this route instead. I made a "coat-hangar" template of the angle needed to clear the front shifter plate of the console. Clamped the stick in a vise, wrapped the stick with cold dripping rags above the shift boot point, and torched the stick and bent it at its lowest end to the "coat-hangar" template. Fit perfectly and the chrome above the boot was still silver. It only needed 10* less angle where the stick bolts onto the linkage. JimM Sep 22nd, 04, 02:39 PM Everett, I think I like your way better... my way involved things like drywall screws! Had to shift back half and inch, and right half an inch too. Dave69Z Sep 24th, 04, 02:24 AM Make sure you have the correct handle for a 69 console. I had to research it for mine thru the hurst website as my handle was actually for a 67/68. there is also ans adjustment on the mounting plate to allow the shifter to move a little to clear the console.I just searched my e-mail and can't find the correct part number. I had to research and tell the parts guy what to order. Good LUck. beattie z28 Sep 24th, 04, 03:38 PM mine was hitting in rev and 4th, i just adj the linkage worked great |
