The last year that the 8.5 was used in a F body was '81. After that they were the 7.5 and 7 5/8. The '95 will be the 7 5/8 with 28 spline axles. The gear ratio depends on how the car was ordered. This rear end will not fit anything but a '82-'02 F body.

Slow down pi, how is a 2" longer coil spring rear housing a direct fit for a leaf spring car? As far as I know 4th gen rears are 7.625 which is what Freddie said, 5/8 = .625

Did you happen to notice that this post is from 2004? And by the way pi2thamfnmp, you are the one who is wwwrrrooonnngg! Where did you get your information from? NO Camaro or Firebird got the 8.5 after '81. Starting in '82 they ALL had the smaller 7 1/2, 7 5/8 or the Borg Warner 9 bolt (which is also smaller than 8 inches). In '90 the 7 5/8 was upgraded from 26 spline axles to 28 spline axles. The Dana 44, which has a 8.5 ring gear, was available as an over the counter part and in the SLP cars, but not factory installed. In '93 the width was increased about 2 inches. All of these rear ends from '82 to '02 had coil springs and a torque arm, which will not work in a first or second gen Camaro or Firebird.

I've been building rear ends for 27 years and I've owned my own rear end shop for 12 years now. Don't come on here with a smart remark like that in your very first post and tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about.
