?? - I'm in sort of a dilema... either drop in a 5 speed, and hope my engine lasts me a while longer, or keep the AutoGear M22, and save to get a new engine built... What would you do? The engine feels strong, and runs good, but burns about 1 qt of oil (might be some leaks causing the loss too) every 3 tanks of gas while it's screaming down the highway at 3400 RPM's. I've been driving it to work lately ~15 highway miles per day, and I'm a little worried it's going to kill it.
JayBird Jul 17th, 03, 05:56 AM Sell me the autogear real CHEAP! :D . Keep the autogear and put a higher rear gear like a 3.42. You didnt say what gear your running so I am assuming its a 3.73 running 65 mph or 4.10 at 55mph.
Spames Jul 17th, 03, 06:13 AM Yeah, I've got 3.73's, and don't really want to change them out, since I just put them in there.
If I do get the 5-speed, I'll definitely be selling the 4-speed.

Spames, yes and no. The one on my site is a GM conversion, has a GM spec input shaft, smaller bearing retainer & bell ears are machined to bolt to a GM bellhousing, and trans mount pad is machined to accept a GM TH400 trans mount.
Both trans are indeed the same case, same internals, etc though. I can sell either, but am primarily dealing with the GM TKO for $1795, and the Ford version we sell for $1495 regularly.
The GM TKO will bolt right in place of your M22 (assuming a 26 spline clutch disc, which I'm pretty sure you have now). The Ford version won't bolt right in.
Mike,
KevinW Jul 17th, 03, 08:04 AM Mike, yes, I would like one please :D
I'm looking at the GM TKO package minus the ball for a 51 chevy pickup. Plan is a mild 383. The chassis is already done with SB setup and IFS front with 80s GM rear with discs all around.
I want to mount the original floor shifter (very long :D , going for the sleeper look ) to the TKO, but I'm not sure which position is the best. Either the front most or middle. Is there a special setup to move the shifter? Or is it something the average guy can do?
I also need a custom crossmember made.
So what's the deal with Team Camaro discount? smile.gif
I was thinking about getting it directly from Forte's (a little closer shipping), but if you can do a better deal..... :D

Kevin I really can't help with the crossmember solution. You'll most likely have to modify the one you have.
You'll most likely want the 12.65" mid-shift shifter location for $300. No, it's not really something you would do, Forte will do it for you.
Call me and we can discuss it some. You should take some rough measurements to decide on the best shifter. I can put it at 7", 12.65, 16.75, and 19.5" from the front face of the trans.
Shipping will be the same, as I'm a distributor for Forte. :)
Call or email for details on the TC discount. With the discount, it will be less than what Forte will sell it for. I'm more willing to share with the clubs I support, which is Team Chevelle and Team Camaro. graemlins/beers.gif

KevinW Jul 17th, 03, 11:26 AM Mike, thanks!
The cab is not mounted to the chassis yet, so I cannot fab up the location of the shifter, but I will call in a week or two to chat.
