Everyone,

Currently struggling on this subject. I've got a 2004r out of an 87 Monte SS that needs to be rebuilt. I want to replace the PG I now have, but struggling with changing to a 2004r w/ current 4.10's or a 4-speed (M20) w/ original 3.31's. I know the advantages on the 2004r, but can't help wondering how nice it would be to shift gears on the weekend. Engine data is in my closing. What are your thoughts?

Automatic transmissions were a great invention. But they sure are boring. graemlins/boring.gif

The "H" in your last name reminds me of the pattern on a pearly white 4-speed shifter ball.

I spend a lot of time on the interstate where I live now, so I think I'm going with the 200-4r, but if I still lived where I grew up and didn't have to constantly travel at high speeds, I wouldn't have nothing but a 4 speed for around town.
IMO, the 4 speed is much funner, but the OD is more practical. Geez, I think I'm getting old.

*gasp*
Did I just make a decision based on practicallity? Next thing you know, I'll be wearing pants like my dad's. :(

Barry,

Since I was on a fairly tight budget, I swapped my tranny from a PG to a Th350. If I would have had more money for the project, I think I would have went with a 200R4 tranny.

Nothing against 4-speeds, but my vote would be for the 200r4 due to the less complicated swap (no driveshaft mods, clutch pedal installation, etc).

Good luck,
Mark P.

for me it was easiest OD for the 68
best for drag racing in the 94
and the price was right on the 00 graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I have a 200, and I think it's great - but I'd love to have a manual trans. In your case, I'd think the deciding factor might be the 4.10s - the overdrive will make them easier to live with. Either way, the driveshaft length and the yoke won't change, and it will be a relatively easy swap. The part that raises beads of sweat on my forehead is cutting a hole in the floor!
