I have a 93 silverado w/a 4l60e that is SHOT,and have been told that a 4l60e out of a 93 0r 94 chevy is the only thing that will work.Do any of you have any suggestions,as they are VERY EXPENSIVE,I have several 700r4 and such, plus one from a 91 chevy van is there anything I can do, as I know there are several transmission GURU in here. This place is G R E A T. THANKS

You can't swap a 700R4 into a vehicle that was originally equipped with a 4L60E if you have emissions testing in your state. First off, your computer will think there are serious problems and your check engine light will set and never go out. Lock-up will be an issue as well.
You say that a 4L60E is expensive.. I guess "expensive" is a relative term. What does expensive equate to in your mind? You should be able to get a full rebuild with a decent warranty for $1600 or so. If you know someone in the business that will cut you a break, you might even get a better deal than that.
Otherwise, if you are really operating on limited funds, you may be able to find a "cut-out" unit from a salvage yard. If you go the used route, be certain to get a warranty and ask how many miles are on the unit. Obviously you are looking for the lowest mileage possible. Before you install a used unit, pull the pan, pull the old filter, cut it open and inspect it.. If the fluid condition and/or filter don't look good, replace the filter and ask for another unit. Better to identify problems BEFORE you install it so you don't have to go through it multiple times.
Before you install another unit in your vehicle, be certain to flush the cooler out! You don't want to contaminate a new/used unit with metal or debris that may be lurking in your cooler or lines from the old transmission.
One last thing, if you go the used route, change out all the seals before you install it. Good insurance.

I might be wrong, but I wasn't 93 was the last year of the 4L60 and 94 was the first for the 4L60-E?
Or was this just for 4th gen Fbodies?
wildbilly you must be wrong b-cause I pulled it yesterday and it does have the big plug on the passenger side plus electrical speedo hook-up. It got to the point that it changed from first to second great then when it goes from second to 3rd or [drive] it goes to nothing also nothing in overdrive anybody got any suggestions is this a pressure problem in the valve body or burn up clutches or both,I pulled the pan and really not alot of metal at all really clean but burned fluid and smell.
