I have a saginaw or however you spell it in my 69 camaro. I have a 454 out of a 73 chevy truck that im going to put in. My question is though, How much horse and tourque can this tranny handle?

my guess is that you will find out how much it can take the first time you side step the clutch at 3000 rpm and get traction..

Like Novaderrik said, depends on how you drive it and how it hooks up. Hard launches with any traction and you will be looking for a new tranny real soon. Sags are not very strong but if you don't sidestep the clutch and don't miss too many shifts, they can be fun. Lot of choices with gear ratios in the box. Have a sag behind a mildly built 327 and have had no problems... so far. I don't get real crazy but don't baby it either. Hope this helps.

I had a saginaw in my 75 Camaro with a radically built 400 4 bolt main SBC. It only lasted five trips down the quarter. The chassis dyno shows 620 rwhp. The car has big rear meat with 4.10 gears. Something has to give and it is usually the weakest link. I replaced it with a Muncie M21 and have not had any problems. The 454 truck motor that you are planning to use will probably be just fine with the saginaw as long as you don't beat on it or try to build too much horsepower into it.

If you just drive it you should be ok if you decide to side step the clutch you won't be ok.
