ok its the "2 series case"
what gears can i use on this?

i cant tell if the last # is an 8 or a 9
also show GM 2 near casting #
H28 date code
also has 3 number 6 or 9's on the case;
what gears can i use on this case? any ideas?

Is the ring gear still on it? If it is then you can get the numbers off of it and tell which one it is. If not then you can measure it and find out what it is. http://community.webshots.com/photo/55410292/55410552ePqBsq Set it on a flat surface like the one in this picture. Measure from the surface to the top of the ring gear flange. The 3 series measures 1.730. I don't recall what the 2 series is, but I can find out if you need to know. The 2 series should be about .375 less than the 3 series.

The only gears made for the 2 series 8.5 are 2.56 and 2.43. You could use a ring gear spacer, but I don't recommend it.

If you can find a 3 series case with busted gears you can take the parts out of yours and transfer them into the other case.
