I have a 12-bolt that I'm getting shortened to factory width and replacing the c-clips with ford-style ends. Does the length of the housing from end to end need to be different from a housing with c-clips?

thanks

Are you using the Ford bearings with the Chevy bolt pattern on the housing flange? If you are then you will be using the Chvey brakes and the dimention from flange to flange will remain the same. If you are using the Ford brakes then I think they are 1/4 inch wider than the Chevy. I can't remember for sure, but I think the Ford is 2 3/4 inches from the housing end to the outside of the axle flange and the Chevy is 2 1/2 inches.

Yes I'm using the big ford bearings with the chevy housing end. How much will I have to shorten my driveshaft? I'm replacing my 8.2 with a 12-bolt.

The drive shaft should be the same for the 8.2 and 12 bolt.
