My son just purchased a 89 camaro and it has the torque tube? The car will be for dragging with a 350 turbo trans. Can I eliminate the torque tube or is it necessary? If I have to keep it what do I attach it to when I get rid of the original trans. Also, it has a 21.8 v6 in it now, will I have to get different frame mounts to put in a v8. thanx.

B&M makes a conversion crossmember for the th350 tranny in a later f-body. Sounds like just what you need.

I think you can eliminate the torque arm, but it really makes them hook!
Then again, if it's for racing only, you'll probably be tuning the suspension enough to make up for it.

the torque arm is a part of the rear suspension- don't get rid of it. just look at the whole setup and you will see how important it is.

novaderrik is right, you can not eliminate the torque arm unless you use some kind of after market suspension. The torque arm is a critical part of the stock suspension. You could change over to ladder bars or a 4 link and get rid of the torque arm. If you are going to take it this far you might as well go ahead and get rid if the weak 7.5 10 bolt rear end.
