Is the powerglide bell housing made out of cast aluminum?

My father in-law was bolting the bell housing to his new 350 when he broke the bolt hole off of the bell housing. The motor was not properly lined up with the trans.

We are thinking about bolting the rest up and running the car for a while without this one bolt.

Can we weld the housing?

Can we weld the housing? Yes, it's aluminum, and yes you can have it welded up.

It can be Heli-arc welded but you need to find someone who can do it without warping the thing all into a pretzel. I have a guy close by that has done a few parts for me and some came out well, others ended up in the scrap pile. FWIW.

which bolt is it? if it isn't bfoken too bad- and there aren't big cracks going out from it- you could run it like that for a good long time.

Hopefully the torque converter was fully seated. I've seen folks not get the converter engaged and then try to use the belhousing bolts to *pull* things together. graemlins/sad.gif
