I need to buy a bell housing as my car does not have one. Does anyone have any recommendations?
I am using a tremec TKO 600 5 Spd for a transmission and it is going in a 69 factory 4 spd car if that makes a difference. The cars is going to be mostly a street car and maybe the occaisional run at the drags.
I see that Lakewood and McLeod make bell housings. Are there any others? Also do I have to get on specifically made for tremecs or will one designed a muncie work? Is it worth my while to hunt down an original one?
And the last question, will a factory Z-bar, clutch fork, and linkage work with aftermarket bellhousings?
Thanks, Lee

If you're going to run it down the track, then the stock bell isn't reccomended. I'm using a Lakewood bell on my 69 with no problems. The factory Z-bar, fork and linkage work. If you install the plate between the engine and bell (might as well you paid for it), get an adjustable pivot ball for the fork and adjust it so you have 4-3/4" between the front of the bell and the top of the ball minus the thickness of the plate. Around 4-9/16" I think.

12Run, thanks for the info. Do you know what the Lakewood part number is on your bell housing? I want to make sure I get the right one. Someone on here posted that they had one but it was the wrong one and wouldn't let his linkage, Z-bar etc work.
Thanks, Lee

Thanks, Lee The McLeod's still aren't available. Better go with the Lakewood 15000. Just be sure to check the alignment on it. Supposedly Lakewood finally addressed their quality issue because TTC leaned on them (whatever that means). Hopefully it'll be within tolerance.
