Has anyone here ever used this before? If so, what are your opinions/recommendations for it being installed in a Summer (no race) Street machine? Is it any good?

View Full Version : B&M Shift Kit GM Turbo 350..is it any good? garfield Jan 21st, 04, 02:46 AM Has anyone here ever used this before? If so, what are your opinions/recommendations for it being installed in a Summer (no race) Street machine? Is it any good? camaroman7d Jan 21st, 04, 06:38 AM I have installed several of them. Yes, they work if you want to firm up your 1-2 shift. You will also get a new adjustable modulator. They are not hard to install and come with good instructions. Not a bad deal for a street car. I am no tranny expert (far from it), but that has been my experience. Never had a problem with one. dnult Jan 22nd, 04, 04:35 PM If you compare a B&M to a Gil Younger kit (Transgo), you'll know why you don't want to use the B&M. I think there are other good ones out there. But I've used several of the B&M and Transgo kits. garfield Jan 23rd, 04, 01:24 AM Take a look at this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2454870591 I'm not gonna buy this from ebay, but if this is the one you recommend, how much can I expect it to cost? Oldani Motorsports Jan 23rd, 04, 02:33 AM Of all the brands out there, the only two I would use are TransGo or TCI, they are very similar in how they work and the shift quality the provide. Disabling accumulators is death to a TH-350 especially on the 1-2 shift. Long life depends on good shift timing and quality and contrary to what many feel is right, a harsh bone-rattling 1-2 shift in a TH-350 is the worst thing you can do to one. It will eventually kill the intermediate sprag and/or sprag race. There are HD 36-element sprag/drums but they are not really a necessity unless you get near the 450 hp area. In the 350-400 range a hardened outer sprag race for the OEM sprag is not a bad addition. Joe Harrison Jan 23rd, 04, 04:16 AM The only thing I know from what was just posted above is IT'S TRUE!! I kept blowing the crudd out of a turbo 350. Finaly took it to a different shop (after getting money back from the first one)and it was right on. Told me the same thing as posted. Original trans blew 4 times popped sprags and the last time busted the case!! Took all broken parts and core the other shop gave me to the new shop. I was told it was a B&M kit. Don't know how you can tell, but 1-2 shift were not as firm but still had a very nice shift and it did not rattle your teeth even under normal take offs. Joe Everett#2390 Jan 23rd, 04, 07:46 AM I agree with Steve's & Joe's responses. I had a TH350 with a B&M kit and broke the sprag 5 times in two years. Three of them where the hardened units. Steve W Jan 28th, 04, 08:47 PM Well, I'm currently running the B&M Street/Strip TH350, and I have no complaints....yet. However, my new motor just got installed and I'll have the car back on Monday, so we'll see how it holds up. But, so far, so good. Steve W Jan 28th, 04, 08:51 PM Oh, sorry, I just noticed you were asking about shift kits, not transmissions. graemlins/clonk.gif ...nevermind! |
