I installed a 80's T5 in my 68' to see if I could pull it off and it works surprisingly well. It works so well I would like to replace the tranny with another T5.
So, since the Ford T5's are so common and much cheaper then a TKO I'm wondering how similar it is to a chevy transmisson.
My question: does anybody know if the input shaft is the same between ford and chevy and is the output shaft a 28 spline.
I kind of doubt I'll be lucky on two accounts to make a Ford tranny work. but it just seams like the cheapest option to get me where I want to go.
any input would be appriciated.

Do a search on the web for Fortes Transmission. They sell Tremecs, World Class T5 etc for both GM and Ford. I think if you surf their sight you might find the answer you are looking for. They put out a lot of information or at least they did the last time I went there. You might run into problems on where the shifter is located as well as the splines being different. You are definitely asking a lot from a 80's T5 unless you have a real mild build up.

I have looked into the fortes but am doing all i possibly can to avoid the cost.
at this time I'm using a 300hp gm crate motor. I just use the car to cruise around in. just something that starts consistantly and drives nice.
was looking into the ford tranny to see if i can save myself a grand but it looks like I'm going to have to do the footwork the specs myself, no problem. just thought I might run into another crazy sucker out there who has tried this.
Thanks for the input folks

The first problem I see is that the Ford T-5 has a different bolt pattern that a Chevy T-5. It seems as long as you don't get to crazy, they will live for a while. A buddy put one in a 68 Chevelle behind a mild big block and it lived.

Speaking of chevy t-5's, does anyone know where to get stronger rebuild kits for them?

I have a 350 with a T5 that is being given to me. I'm hoping to buy some time until I can drop a LS1 and a T56 in my 67.

hey bpaul, the chevy and ford t5 are different as far as the input shaft and the outputshaft, and the boltpattern to the case, so no it wont swap, if you want a real trans that will handle anything you can dish out i would be glad to build you a brandnew m22 4spd youll have no worrys again, take care regards tom
