I'm looking for a recommendation for a driveline shop in central Minnesota that knows how to narrow a 9" rear end. I'm located an hour from St.Cloud or Brainerd and 90 minutes from the Metro or Duluth (east central Mn.). Would like to know that it will be done right.

Hey John, call Central Driveline and Powertrain in Brainerd 825-8807 and see if they do that type work. They built a new driveshaft for me, very reasonable and had benches of projects going on in there when I stopped to look. I dont know for sure, but worth a call.
Hope you folks can join us next June for Power Tour with either the camaro or Chevelle.

there's a guy in a town called Cokato that can setup any rear end to any length you need, and has a few jigs for the different brackets for various stock chassis setups. he does this stuff at his house, and i don't know his number there, but he runs the machine shop at Holt Motors (a Ford dealership, but he's the best machinist i have heard of in the area). the Holt number is 320-286-2176 and ask for Harlan. i don't THINK he works Mondays or maybe Tuesdays- that's when he does his stuff at home.

Hey Click thanks for the info. The Chevelle is ready to go anytime for the power tour. I have about 700 miles and 6 trips down the track at BIR on the 396 rebuild with a class champion plaque on the wall. Hope the dates work out. I would really like to take the Camaro if it's done by then. Will check out the shop you mentioned.

Hey novaderrik, I'm familiar with Cokato, I grew up in Hutchinson and I know where Annandale is also. I now live up north at Mille Lacs Lake. I'll check out the advice from Click first because it's closer and then I'll call Cokato. Thanks. I bought my Chevelle at Hooked on Classics in Watertown in 1996. I'm sure you've been there. I got a great deal on it. It was about 65% complete and I paid $7000. It's now done and I have $12000 into it. The Camaro is another story. Bought it from my niece for $2500 and now have $14000 into it and probably anoher $3000 to go. Has been a fun project though. Frame off, Fastburn 385 with a 200-4R Tranny and working on the 9" rear. It will be painted 2001 Monte Carlo Red with black Z28 stripes. It will see the street most of the time but will go to BIR every 4th of July and Rock Falls every spring. Thanks for your input.

Not sure if he is still in business, but do a hunt for Dave Stevens Race Cars. He has built some awfully nice drag race cars. A pal of mine in Hibbing had his car done there. You might look in the Hibbing directory for Mike Haben, and give him a call as he may know. Tell Haben I sent you, he is on my $hit list now since he went roundy-round racing, lol. There are a ton of chassis places in the Twin Cities too.
