I have just completed adjusting my shifter rods. Sat in the car and everything seemed to be fine. I then hooked up my Z bar again all looked great from underneath, clutch pedal worked fine. The shifter is now completely stuck in what seems to be neutral or that "not quite reverse" position before it's actually engaged into reverse.
Is there some sort of mechanism that pops the shifter out of that "almost reverse" position?
Everything looks fine from the bottom, the rods aren't touching each other or the floor anywhere. The clutch seems to be working fine, I have not started the car though because of the blistering cold.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,

Don't jerk on the shifter. You will have to get under a properly supported car and move the shift plate back to neutral by hand. You may have to tap on it slightly to get it back into neutral. This will put the shifter back into neutral. If you put this shifter in new, there should have been a plastic L shaped tool to insert into the shifter with everthing in the neutral position. With that in place, remove the rods from the plates on the trans and make sure that the plates are in the neutral position. Turn the rod ends until each of them goes in and out of the plates easily. Once that is done, put the clips back in, remove the tool and shift into each gear. With the trans in 1st or 3rd, set the rear shift stop bolt (if equipped) and then shift into 2nd or 4th and set the front shift stop bolt (if equipped). Don't set bolts against the shifter mechanism. Leave a hair space between and tighten nut. Once you have done this, you should be set. Good Luck.

I had tried that alrieady, that what I meant by adjusting the shifter rods, they were actually rubbing each other and the floor pan when I bought the car. After I had adjusted them the shifter worked fine. But I put it in reverse and can't get it out now.
