I have the transmision and motor out of my 68 and would like to put new seals in it. Can I take the tail housing off with out risking screwing up the gear set? Looks like there is two gaskets one on each side of the spacer. Is there a seal in the front of the transmision where the shaft comes out? The pilot bearing went out of the fly wheel and left two groves in the shaft. Should I put a needle bearing back in or something else?

The best thing to do is order the Muncie video from 5speeds.com. I can rebuild mine in a couple of hours with help from it.

Im doing the same thing right now using the video from 5speeds.com. If you have it apart, might as well replace everything. A master rebuild kit will run you around $140.

try Ebay for your gaskets, there are lots of kits there, you can get everything from just a basic gasket set to a complete overhaul kit,and they are way cheaper than any resto catalog.as far as the two gaskets between the plater I think your looking at taking it almost completely apart but you dont need to mess with the mainshaft gears you can remove it as an assembly

MR Gasket has one of the least expensive gasket sets available, and can usually be purchased locally with no shipping charges.
If you are pulling the cluster shaft out of the trans, make a dummy pin out of a piece of conduit tubing, but make it only as long as the cluster gear. It will make reassembly lots quicker and easier. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
