I am back home for 2 weeks before I go overseas so I thought I'd drive my finished car out for the day.

I went to a restaraunt about 15 miles away here in central Texas, I parked, lots of looks, oohs, and aahhs and go inside to eat. I finish up go back out to the car with onlookers both inside and outside....I put the key in and turn.....nothing.....figuring I turned it wrong (yeah right) I tried it again....nothing......now that hot tingly sweaty flash feeling comes over me....I plead, please dont do this to me....I try again, nothing.

So I sit for a few seconds thinking about what it is....I think neutral safety switch, so I happen to have a couple of screwdrivers in my console....I remove the plates around the shifter to get to the switch....I wiggle, twist, i try everything.....nothing.....now that hot sweaty tingly embarrassing as hell feeling is getting worse.....So as much as I was not wanting to do it, I leave the key on, get out open the trunk get a big screwdriver, go around pop the hood and short the solenoid, it roars to life.....I close the hood without looking left or right, close the trunk get in and leave.

Had to be one of the most embarrassing moments of my life.....cool points when I drove in, 100.
When I drove away? -50 Good thing I'll be gone for a year, I wont be seen around for a while. graemlins/sad.gif

it happens to all of us!

One time, trying to impress some friends back in high school with the '68... I give the car a quick rev and as it comes back down the whole thing is shaking and just sounds wrong... I'm very worried and I can tell that my friends can tell something is wrong. I'm on a road about two minutes from my house... I drive home, pop the hood... a plug wire had come off the distributor... Duh!

Yeah, Happened to me twice. Once when I first bought the car.. The seller said he filled it up the day before. The gas gauge reads only 1\4 full. I stop to fill up for the trip home and was met with a few appreciative lookie loos. As I'm putting gas in, expecting to take on several gallons, after about 1 1\2 gallons, gas comes pouring out fill hole. (embarrassing part 1).
When I go to leave after wiping off the gas, same thing... The car won't start. After several battery cable wiggles and lot's of swearing, I jump the solenoid with a BFSD. ( embarrassing moment 2).

Later in the week, I drive over to my buddy's house to show off my new ride. We go to the beer store and when I try to start.... same thing only this time the BFSD doesn't fire her up. (embarrassing moment3). .... I get her on a flatbed courtesy of AAA and the next day I replaced the starter. Not as easy as I thought as I had to drop the header on the starter side.
I think the heat from the header ( since it encases the starter), led to it's early demise.
I wrapped the new starter with heat wrap to avoid embarrassing moment 4 later down the road.
So yes it has probably happened (or will) to all of us. Moral of the story.....
Always carry a BFSD and a AAA card.

We had a class on how to properly inspect a car for any hazardous materials, and our commander asks ,"who will let us use their car?", and I figure hey good time to show it off a little. Long story short, we get done, I get in pull away, and right over the spike strip we had placed to demonstrate how to contain a car.
