Any tips for a 350? I need to spread out the shifts a bunch...it's in 3rd within 30 foot!

I have never been able to do much with an adjustable modulator. You need to change the governor springs and weights.

Consider the modulator a fine tuning control. Don't get too wild with it - it's meant to run within a certain range of control. The govenor is the place to tweak as oger stated. If you don't like the spacing of the shifts, like running too long in first, you need a shift-kit which will replace the shift valve springs.

I bought the car 3 years ago and went to Europe before I could do anything with it. My Dad stored/played with it for me and I just got my hands on it again last month. The trans was supposedly rebuilt with shift kit by the previous owner...and it is very tight, but without manual shifting, it runs thru the gears instantly and is in 3rd waaaaay to fast. How can I adjust it without major surgery? Thanks for any advise, Tim

This is as much a question as a statement, but isn't the vacuum modulator used to adjust part throttle shift points and the governor is for full throttle shifts?

I have my vacuum modulator adjusted so it doesn't shift so quick at part throttle. In fact, it shifts a lot sooner when I floor it in drive than when I go 1/2 throttle.

Which shift point are you trying to modify? Wide open or part throttle?

Just part throttle/normal driving, if I'm getting on it I normally grab the horseshoe anyway.

The modulator balances the engine load to shift timing and firmness as well as controlling the pressure and application of clutches. So no, it isn't a shift timing adjustment. The govenor controlls timing. The modulator modulates the timing.

turn it in and see what happens. Shifting that early could be a few things... try about 2-4 turns and go for a spin
