Hi, OK, I got the trans in my 67 camaro. I have a 3:73 rear end. The rebuilt 200r4 shifts way to early. I went to the junk yard and got another governor to play with and to adjust the shift points. I read i should drill a hole to remove material. What size hole should I drill to start dialing in the shift points?
I got the TV cable adjusted to the rebuilder specs. I dont see any problems there.

I fought the same problem. I finally got a gov that comes pretty close to doing what I want it to, although the 2-3 shift is a bit LATE. I'll send you or post a pic of the 2 different govs later today.
Here are two pics:

The governor with the green gear is the one that provides the shift points closer to what I wanted. The red geared one shifted way too early, and I guess that's what you have. Note - I am speaking mainly about part throttle shifts. While the gov affects WOT shift points as well, you can manually shift at WOT to get what you want. Also, the gears easily interchange from one gov to the other. I'm not sure what car the lighter (green) gov came out of, but I'm guessing it's from a Monte Carlo SS.

I think the Turbo Buicks (Grand Nationals) had the highest shift points of all the 200 4R, here is a link to a site comparing the Turbo governor to a standard one. But I was also told there is other changes in the valve body that determine the shift points, and to get all shift points where one wants them takes a combination of calibrations in the valve body and the govenor.

As near as I can tell, wayner is right on the money. However, lacking a GN valve body, you can still effect shift point changes by monkeying around with the governor. I have some turd Olds valve body in mine, and it is still acceptable.

Mine is like the the one you have pictured on the left. It also has the number four stamped on it. my trans was rebuilt with raybestos clutches, large servo, performance shift modifications, modified heavy duty pump and one wire lockup for the converter. I was thinking of drilling 3/16 hole in each weight to start, do you think this is a good idea? thanks BPOS and Wayner

I would recommend grinding or using an air powered cut-off tool to remove material, although drilling would be ok. It will likely be a trial and error process, so be patient. Make sure it is spotlessly clean before reinstalling. Good luck.

Hi, With drilling it will be more a accurate way of measuring the weight I removed. If this works well it would be easier way of helping someone else with the same problem. Thanks for your input I will keep a eye out for the other governor previous pictured at the wecking yard.
