OK guys I have what appears to be a 8.5" 10 bolt with a 5 leaf spring pack. I know this is not stock to my '67 coupe so I would like to ID it. I looked on the drivers side tube front and rear but me and my trusty wire brush found no ID on the tube. I did find a few numbers on the front drivers side of the pumkin. 1254333 upside down and 297 running vertically. Here are some pictures for your reference.

Thank you for any information you can provide.

Look on the tube on the passenger side on front side toward motor at about mid way on the tube and get the numbers.

You were looking on the wrong axle tube. The numbers will be on the right axle tube. I guess you probably already know that this is a Nova 8.5 10 bolt. I couldn't see the yoke very well, but it looked like it might be a '72.

I will have to look again. Got distracted putting in the pedal assbly and clutch linkage. Question, from just spinning the drive shaft and counting revolutions it looks like I have 4:11 or 4:56 gears. My question is did a '72 Nova rearend (assuming that is correct)come with such low gearing stock?

Thanks Guys

This code was up at about 11 o'clock and not at 9 o'clock like the web site said, it looks like 2TVG82732 http://thehoovers.com/liam/camaro/rearend_code.jpg

According to that site that would make this a '78 2:41 peg leg. I spun the driveshaft and I counted it to be a 4:11 or so posi. (both wheels turned in the same direction). Maybe its a later housing with a posi unit? Here are two other pics

I'd say that someone has done a gear swap and installed a posi.

I am dying to drive this thing. Heck just to hear the motor fire. The engine had about a few thousand miles on it and then the previous owner rebuilt the whole topend minus cam and never fired it before he sold it to me. I have no idea what the cam is like except for the fact that the previous owner said it was radical as he did not install it either, it came from the owner before him.
