What clues inside the car should I look for to determine if the car had a manual tranny to begin with? Would there be some mount holes in the firewall or on the tunnel? I know my motor has the MA at the end of the sequence on the block, but what other clues are there to look for?

Look at the frame where the Z-bar bracket would be attached. Was one bolted or welded on? Check where the clutch rod would go through the firewall. How about checking where the speedo cable goes thru the firewall? Verify these holes or plugs with an assembly manual for firewall piercings. What about the neutral safety switch or wiring harness location? Was there ever a kickdown switch or wiring if the car came with a turbo 400? Should be lots of clues.......

You should have evidence of a hole in the tunnel for the shifter.

Thanks for the info guys. What would the setup have been if it was the saginaw instead of the muncie?

If it was a Saginaw, it would use the regular production speedo cable hole (outboard of the steering column, and below and inboard of the fuse block hole); this hole was in all dash panels, and was plugged when a Muncie was used. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Kewl, that makes sense then. On same note then, on the interior side of things what would I look for on the firewall or area above kick planel for linkage to attatch too, or did it? I think at some point down the road I may convert back to a MT from the turbo 400 thats in now. Though will likely go the muncie route rather than a 5 sp.
