Has anyone tried one of the new M-22 trans with the M-20 Ratio Gears set? I spoke to Tom from Spokane Wa. Yesterday & with my rear rear ratio he recommended this trans. he also recommended the fine spline input & output shafts. Anyone with experance with this type of trans?

I got a set of Italian made m22 gears made in the m20 style. I have not put any power to my transmission yet but the install was simple. I used ebay to gather all my parts, including an auto gear super case and iron midplate. A few guys on this site are running autogear m22s that have the m20 ratio.

I have an a Supercased M22 with new Masiero M22 gears in the regular M22 ratios. I chose those ratios over the M20 ratios because of a conversation that I had with Paul at www.4speeds.com (http://www.4speeds.com) . He told me that Masiero chose to use the older M20 tooth counts on the input shaft and the countershaft rather than the newer M20 tooth counts. I don't recall the exact tooth counts, but he said that the older design was weaker than the newer design. It had something to do with how many gear teeth were spread out over a given distance. As to how much weaker, he couldn't say. You might want to call him and see. I think that he had a good price on the gearsets too.
Anyway, that conversation was enough to discourage me from buying them, but then, I was leaning more toward the close ratio gearset anyway. I have a 400sb and 3.42 gears and I am very pleased. I don't have any problems pulling out or melting the tires in first gear. Looking back though, I wish that I had went ahead and installed a Tremec five speed. The investment wouldn't have been that much more. They are stronger than the M22, you have a much better first gear ratio, and you have overdrive. The only problem with the Tremec is the lack of the cool wining noise that you get with the M22.

I hear ya there buddy! I dumped almost $1500 in my muncie along with the hurst shifter. Now that I think of it I could have swapped in a 5 speed. oh well. Yeah I wish I got the gears in a m20 ratio so I wouldent have to go crazy with my rear gear. I got my gears from an ebay auction for 500 rather then the 680 or so they were going for in the wide ratio. 4.10s here we come!

I have an M21. It doesn't make as much noise as the M22, but I will miss the noise it does make when I put the Tremec in.
