i have the chance to pick up a m22 dirt cheap. i have a fresh 10 bolt posi with 3.42 gears that works great with my th350 but i was wondering if i would have a noticeble decrease in acceleration with the m22's 2.20 first gear. my motor is a 355 with 200cc iron eagle heads, zz4 roller cam/ performer rpm manifold and a 750 carb. Any info would be great.

Thanks

You might not like it. If you had 3.73s or 4.11s I would say no problem.

I wouldn't use it without a gear change. Total gear ratio in low would be 7.52. My '72 Nova w/350 had 3.08's & a 2.54 low gear (total 7.82) for a while, & it was a pain in the butt to get it moving from a dead stop, even with the heavy 14" flywheel. I changed the trans to a 3.11 low (total 9.57), & it was much more pleasant (& fun) to drive. Clutch life improved dramatically as well.

I have an M22 with 3.42 gears with a 400 small block and I love it. I have no problem pulling out, but my 400 makes alot of low end torque. You do have to slip the clutch a little more when pulling out than with a regular car, but to me, its not an issue. I like the ratio spread of an M22 or M21 much better than the M20 spread.
