I purchased a saginaw for the 69 and I don,t need a real strong transmission but I sure do like the WINE of a m-22 is there anything I can do to make it WINE.Also I have a completion plus shifter and it looks as if the rods are in the way of the speepo hook-up any suggestions on that plus the W I N E oh how I LOVE TO HEAR THAT. I just can,t see spending 1700.00 just to hear it and NO I don,t want PETE JACKSON timing gears is there another option/??????????

pdq67 Mar 3rd, 05, 06:10 PM I'm probably going to be going through the speedometer cable deal this weekend b/c I'm switching out my old '80 P/U's Sag. 3-speed for a 3.50 first gear ratio Sag. 4-speed.
I'm using a new, (ebay win), 3-speed Indy P/U Shifter Kit mount and an old Hurst Comp.+ out of who know's what b/c Hurst doesn't know what it is out of!!
I figure that I am going to have to get an 1/8" to 3/16" thick, 3.75" square piece of cold-rolled steel and mount the shifting mechanism up above the speedo cable! I'm going to mount the plate to the 3-speed mount and then I'm going to drill the plate and install/bolt the shifter mechanism to it!
Then cut off the already ruined Comp+ chrome handle and drill the stub and bolt on the tall P/U handle and be done with it!!
I figure I will have all of $40 in my 4-speed shifter and since the mechanism is a Comp+, it will work great, imho!!!

ZZ430DropTop67RS Mar 3rd, 05, 07:09 PM Yeah, I like to hear a gear whine myself.
Of course, the straighter the gears are cut, more noise is produced.
Back in the day, I had a M22 in an El Camino and loved it, but still, the gears in that tranny are helical cut.
I put a Richmond 6 speed in my 67 convertible, and if you want gear whine, it has straight-cut gears, and it makes the M22 sound mild in comparison. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
smits67 Mar 4th, 05, 05:13 AM I do not know of anything you can do to the saginaw to make it whine.......without destroying it.
My Doug nash gearbox has straight cut gears. Man, do those gears ever "talk" to you! smile.gif
BBC1 Mar 4th, 05, 05:43 AM The only way to make a Saginaw wine is to tell it it's from Flint...LOL sorry jut couldn't resist. :D
rojo Mar 4th, 05, 09:56 AM I'm running a Sag in the '67 with a comp plus. The speedo cable is difficult to get connected and has to make a bend more than you'd like. Seems to work okay though. As far as the whine, just wait awhile and it'll make all kinds of wierd noises. lol
tman Mar 8th, 05, 04:24 PM theres one sure way to get it to whine, just drop the gear lube out of it, and it will whine for about 5 miles until it blows up. sorry lol, no there is no way to get it to make the noise an m22 will
oger Mar 8th, 05, 06:07 PM Every Saginaw I ever owned had so many miles on it that an M-22 was quiet compared to them. I just did an M-22 for a guy and the thing makes almost no noise. Most tired std Muncies are much noisier.
