I have a broken stud on the rear axel (10 bolt) of my 69 camaro. The stud doesn't seem to wanna budge at all (oil, heat, hitting...etc)
Is this something I should try to drill out....I have been very hesitant about putting too much force on the axle itself...should I be worried about this??
Should the new stud just slide in once the old one is removed?
Thanks

You should use a large hammer and a punch to knock the old stud out. The new stud will have to be pulled in with a nut and spacer. Be sure to lube the threads before you pull it in. Pull it in until it fits against the back of the axle flange.

OUCH,,,,,
Dont use a hammer unless you pull the axle and support the backing plate.
Try to find a Ball joint tool, This is a large C-Clamp, and can press the stud out.

I usually run an air chisel with a point, and have at it.

You could also try to press it out with a C-clamp. Just use an old socket or pipe nipple on the back to create a void for the stud to go in. the best type of clamp to use in this case would have a nut to turn with an impact wrench.

I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing ;)

Like Jody said, they usually come out pretty easy, with one lick from the hammer. If you feel more comfortable using something to press it out, then do it that way.
