Hello all, I am hoping someone can help me. I have a 67 4 speed with a Hurst Shifter. The current shifter stick is very incorrect...hits the console and way too short. I am trying to purchase a new correct stick, as the shifter itself is good. Where the shifter stick bolts into the shifter, it is on an angle, so the shifter stick needs to have some kind of angle to get into the console.

So, my real question is what stick do I buy. I ordered Hurst stick #4106 but it was wrong. Can any suggest the correct Hurst Shifter part #, which is engraved right on the stick itself near the bolt holes. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Thanks all and Team Camaro

This is the type I have on my M-22, does not come anywhere near the console...

Mine is the part number:
530-538-7436

Does it have that angle on it?

The stick on the correct shifter is straight. The shifter has the angle built into the tower to properly center the stick in the console.

Please bear with me...the 4106 Hurst shifter stick I bought is straight. If I was to install that stick on the current shifter, it would be pointing to the glove box because the shifter itself, where the stick mounts into, is on an angle.

Does that make any sense? graemlins/clonk.gif

You've got the right stick according to the Hurst catalog. Sounds like you have the wrong shifter. The last four digits of the correct shifter part number is 4339 and it has sort of a 'S' bend in the shift tower.

May I suggest getting a stock, Muncie shifter..

I have always liked mine and i know it isn't as good as a Hurst but it has always done me fine!!

Tom, I misunderstood your post earlier, my bust. That is what happens when you're in a hurry. The other shifter mentioned/referenced later in posts is correct, I believe.

ok, went out and pulled the boot off my car..

The stick shift lever bends to the rear at a 45 degree angle just above the mounting bolts. THE SHIFTER ITSELF POINTS STRAIGHT UP. The stick clears the dash and console easily. Thing is, the shifter and stick came together as one part, summit # HUU-3914339, listed for a 67-68 Camaro.

So I have no idea on the stick alone, and the hurst website ain't easy.

Summit shows this part# HUU-5380015 stick, only "stick only" they list, the pic looks right, BUT IT WOULD BE THE ONLY PIC IN THAT SECTION THAT DOES!!!!

The shifter is on that angle. Thanks all for your comments and efforts. I hope to hear more after this picture is posted.

I doubt if that shifter was made for a first gen. Camaro. It appears the floor has been cut in order for the shifter to fit. A factory, or aftermarket Hurst, would have the shifter handle comming through the floor at about the middle of the tunnel.

That looks absolutely nothing like a comp plus made for a camaro. The shifter itself maybe? but the stick is all wrong. I'll see if I can get a pick up a lil later...

Your shifter tower should point straight up. What installation kit did you use?

I think you've been reading too much of the Playboy material on the pass floor.........lost track of what you were doing..........

That shifter look to be out of a 70 71 or 72 camaro. No wonder you're having problems. You need to do what pdq67 said and buy a factory shifter or at least buy a new Hurst setup thats for the a 67 camaro

I have a Hurst comp in my 67 camaro & love it, I had a small promblem with it hitting the front of the console when in third gear, I just moved my console forward about 1/2" & fixed the promblem, other than that it makes life a lot easier than one of the old muncie shifters.

When I took the console out, those Playboy playing cards fell out!

The "shifters" are all the same. There is only ONE hurst comp plus. There are different part #'s because the stick is included, and there are different sticks.
To make it fit, you'll need the correct mounting kit, which'll set the gearshift at the correct angle, and the correct shifter, which is bent to therear at a 45 degree angle just above the mounting bolts. I sure wish it was easier to post a pic here!

Oh Paul, stock shifters s%uck!

As a side note, I have only had a problem with my '67's stock, Muncie shifter one time!!

After that I used to crawl under her several times a year while changing oil and squirt some 20wt oil all over it AND it would work great until the next time!!

Not sure this was mentioned but there is only one factory hole cutout in the tunnel. It doesn't matter if it was an automatic car or manual shift car. If it doesn't fit through the factory cutout then it is wrong.
If the console is mounted correctly the shifter shouldn't hit.
The correct shifter is available as stated earlier.
