That was nothing more than a blatant effort to sneak a Furd picture onto this site wasn't it ?!?!

J/K - that is a funny story :D

p.s: where in the wide-wide-world of the 'High Desert' are you  I drive through the L/P area on 14/Pearblossom and out through Victorville on the 'cut-off' to the Big Bear Lake area every couple months. Sometimes I use the 58/395 way if I need an excuse to loose time or the weather is right - about this time of year... Bet you guys miss the Roy Rogers Museum don't you...

That's a nice looking Ford if I do say so myself!!

BTW, I remember the last summer I was a full time employee of the N&WRR back in the summer of '68.

The local train came through and got about a dozen or more Black Angus cows and calves that had gotten out and were down in a brushy cut so they couldn't jump over out of the way.

You talk about a mess cleaning them up and about a week later tamping the track after what was left got good and ripe!!

They're definitely a problem in Michigan. I've seen several hit by jets landing, usually just hits the flaps, but a couple years ago a turbo prop commuter plane here hit one with the propeller, that was a mess. A lot of the smaller airports in Northern Michigan you have to taxi down to both ends of the runway and do some high power run ups to try to scare off the dear at night. Unfortuantely by the time you take off they've sometimes come back out around the opposite end of the runway.

Wow, that is wierd.
I hate it when the trains grenade a bear inside a tunnel. That gets messy.
Sometimes 3-4 deer go strolling into a tunnel, never to come out. :( Carnage, deer parts everywhere.

Better than finding people though. That's happened. :(

Vintage, I live just outside of Victorville (Hesperia) and I went to the Roy Rogers Museum one last time before they moved and if it walked or crawled he shot and stuffed it HA HA ! If you want to see a great Museum go to the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum across from the L A Zoo , he had towns tore down and rebuilt in the museum and the clothes Wyatt Earp wore and rooms full of guns, a great way to spend a day.

Hesperia Cool  (or 'hot' any month except some of jan. and most of feb. )
I used to spend many weekends out playin' in the desert in that area - I grew up (well okay, sort of grew up ) in Orange County and the High Desert was our playground!
Missed getting back to the R.Rogers Museum before they closed it - I was wondering what else he had 'stuffed' in the years since I was there last... if Dale hadn't outlived him I bet he would have stuffed her.
That area is growing like a tumbleweed out there - you guys even have a new 'Tommy's Chili-burger' in Barstool now graemlins/hurray.gif Had to stop by for a couple on my last trip through there in Jan.
I'm fairly familiar with the Gene Autry - I used to have my L.A. office literally right across the 5/Golden State frwy from there on San Fernando road. Went there on many a lunch break or a slow afternoon - also used to take foreign customers there, they loved the place. I was born in Glendale so moving back for a few years was fun - but, I'm glad I'm up North again now. Still get withdrawals for "Tommy's" sometimes though.
Nice to hear back from you. Here's wishing you days in the shade

pdq - 'nice looking Ford' - that's one of those 'oxy-morons' isn't it
