ok im posting this for a friend.
He has a 92 camero 5.0 (v8 of course) 5 speed with throttle body injection. Heres what it does. if its sitting @ idle or in traffic it heats up pretty fast. going down the road it still heats up but not NEARLY as fast. he has replaced the rad., hoses and the thermostate within the last year. He claims it keeps "blowing" the sencer that runs the e. fan and he has to run a jumper on the drivers side firewall to have the e. fan run all the time.
Any body got any ideas? where is the e fan temp sencer? what would cause it to over heat? bad waterpump? i do know it has the little scoop/ dam thing under the front so it shouldnt over heat going down the road.

It may not be overheating. The General has changed the cooling temps to have the engine run hot, say 210-215*F, as this effort cuts down on emissions. This is the reason for a 195* F thermostat, plus the addition of a leaner fuel charge into the cylinder(s), since it is an ECM-controlled engine.

If the fan sensor keeps breaking(?), you might try another brand of sensor, rather than an aftermarket auto parts store, i.e., Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc., go to an Auto Electric Repair shop and ask them for a replacement from their supplier, maybe one of a lower heat range. I'm sure you've tried the dealer for the replacement part, the General does warranty his parts for 1 year, keep the receipt for a replacement.

Does the engine cool down when the fan(s) are forced on? If it does, then it is the fan not coming on as you've suggested. Otherwise, it could be a bad water pump if you don't feel the top hose get hot as the thermostat opens up, or maybe a loose belt, not likely with a serpentine belt, but, could be stretched and very little tension left from the spring tensioner.

One might install a Mr Gasket Hi-Flow thermostat, 180*F, place in a pan of water with a thermometer and cycle it through the heat process before installing it to make sure it works.
