O.K. I've searched in all Camaro Techs (03,02, 01, etc.) and Heating & Cooling, and Trouble shooting, etc. No help in how to get the heater core out of the air box in a 69 sb A/C car. I have the air box out of the car (frame off resto) and would like to replace the heater core. This thing is like a puzzle. The 69 service manual doesn't even tell you how to get it out. What's the deal?

Nice to know I can count you for replies! Hey as far as I now We'll be around on Sunday. I'll probably be up to my armpits in Camaro by 1pm. Stop by and have coke. Click, I noticed you are replacing your fuel tank. I just got mine today. Are you planning to clear coat it or put some kind of finish on it or are you just leaving it plain? I know they're galvanized but I think they'll eventually start to look corroded. Any thoughts?

On an air car the easiest way to removethe heater core is from inside. With the front clip off it is a little easier because you can get to the nuts around the heater/ac box. You have to remove the glove box and door. Unhook the heater control cables, pull the heater assembly inward and then slide it down. You can then replace the core and the inner seals on the flaps, lube the shafts and reassemble. It is not a difficult job. When you look at everything, you think that it should be easy from under the hood but it is actually easier under the dash. If you have the seats out it is a breeze.

I think Im painting it POR Gray, with POR black hanging straps. I got it all marine cleaned and metal ready so now that its getting warmer outside, I will be able to open the door to the garage and paint it along with the straps. I want to get the gas tank going so I can drive it to the paint shop soon.

Hey 69x11ss, I think you misunderstood. The heater core assembly (air box)is already out of the car, the car is completely disassembled for frame off resto. I need to know how to get the heater core itself out of the air box.

Hey 69x11SS, are the seals for the flaps you are referring to the same seals you purchase for the heater box without ac?

I got it apart. Had to look under the seal to find more screws that were holding it together. Unfortunately my heater core is shot. It has a leak were the upper tube is attached.

Midlife, Sorry about that. I didn't think that you had the box out yet. I see you found the tension bracket when you removed the seal. I should have figured that and said something. The other seals I am talking about are behind the core inside the box. You have to remove the hinge pin, remove the flap, replace the seal and reinstall. The procedure is very similar to replaciing the seals in your astro vent system. Again, sorry for the misunderstanding.
