Im thinking of installing a manual reading thermometer in a special brass fitting that can adapt to one of the 1/2" pipe plugs on the intake manifold near the thermostat housing. one of the plugs faces the radiator to the right of the thermostat as you face it standing in front. The other plug is on top of the intake to the left of the thermostat. Either of those better than the other to measure fluid temps when its idling?
With this setup I can monitor engine temps while under the hood instead of having to jump back inside.
Wonder if anyone has done anything like this? Ive not found anything in search yet.

I would use the forward facing orifice.

If you were to use the top facing orifice there is definately more of a chance for air to be trapped in that point of the manifold. That alone would cause an inaccurate temperature indication.
