Anyone have a problem with the 69 vents on the left and right side moving 'too easily'? I am driving and the driver side moves by itself its so loose. I took a look and could not figure out a way to tighten it so that it would not move so freely left and right. Any ideas on this? It doesn't seem that you can tighten it down. In fact I am wondering if I need to replace the plastic piece the vent sits in because of it wearing away over time or maybe I can put some heavy grease or something really sticky in there that would cause it to not move so freely it its base?

Don't know if 69s came with this felt washers, but 67-68s, with astro vent outlets, need felt stripes to stay in place. Look for them and install one on each end, if space permits.

My 69 had the felt washers. I lost mine on the drivers vent when I first restored the car. The drivers vent flopped around because it was loose. I just installed vintage air, so one of the things that I had to fix was the free moving vent. I put some felt in there and now it works fine!
You'll have to pull the dash carrier(dash pad as well if it's on) and then pull the vent out from the back(4 screws). The felt goes on the top and bottom "knobs" of the vent between it and the vent housing to give it some resistance while turning.

On my vents I found 1/2 moon type felt washers on either side of the vent posts. They work well after I scuffed them up with a knife a little bit. Not sure thats proper but who cares right?

Click, I think you have the right idea. I finally found the Upper Level Ventilation page in my 69 Factory Assembly Manual, it documents an upper and lower 'spacer' 3940219 which looks like a half moon goes on the back side of each of the upper and lower cylinder looking mounts on the vent. It also documents a 'seal' 3937172 which goes between the dash and the moveable vent. It doesn't document what these two pieces are made of and I have looked at every classic car parts website and no one seems to have such parts for a 69 camaro. I am hoping those part #s can be purchased from my local GM dealer... If anyone else has gone thru this I'd appreciate your comments. I would think that more and more Camaro owners have had to go down this road to fix their vents.

The "spacers" can be made with self adhesive foam strip from the hardware store....
The "seal" can be made with the same material as above. Actually that's what they provide if you buy a kit from Rick's.
