Just got done putting in my 383. I'm trying to decide if I want to run the flex fan and shroud or goto an electric fan set up.

My 383 is 10.5 to 1, Edelbrock Alum Heads. I will be running a Tremec TKO 5 speed. The radiator is brand new. It is the big block radiator.

What will work best. I was thinking electric to gain a few horsepower. The car will be used mostly for street crusing, not a daily driver or race car.

What brand of electric fans are people running and what kind of result are you getting?

Luke you can do some thread searches here and come up with all kinds of goodies. Lot's of good experience and advice. ;)

The real scoop is that quality electric fans will outperform ANY mechanical fan at idle and slow speeds where you need them the most! The Lincoln Mark VIII is a huge airmover and takes an upgraded electrical system as well sucking around 40 amps, but will cool the biggest of bigblocks with air in the middle of the Mojave! Twin Spal and Derale fans are popular as well and move in excess of 2700cfms which is good too.

The current most popular mechanical fan is the flex-heavy duty series from Derale. Check out http://www.derale.com/flexfans.shtml and order the 17XXX series only. These are the best constructed, high flow and will not eat alot of hp up on the high ends. I run a 17" with my 69 ragtop with over 400hp, air and Atlanta traffic and temperatures! They look and perform great.
