The whole front of my car is coming off anyway, so it will be much easier, I am doing a subframe swap (due to cracks) along with complete new suspension, disc brakes, engine and tranny....I just looked through all the boxes, seems to be a very well made system, well see.....Ill take pics and post progress...Scott (choptop) and I will have to exchange any fixes to problems we encounter during install.

What kind of subframe are you going to use? stock replacement or an aftermarket one.

The picture you see here is bring out ALL the hoses thru the old blower motor hole ready to be put into the space between the outer and inner fenders. The result produces this...

I actually made a firewall smoothing cover out of 20ga aluminum and powder coated it black. Most people think it's part of the orignal firewall! Looks great and no stinkin box on the firewall.

Just a thought ;)

I got my Vintage kit in last week thru DS&E. The installation instructions seem pretty clear, but I need to customize my install since I'll be using a GM compressor instead of their Sanden unit. So far I don't like the instructions to cut into the firewall for mounting their hose pass through. Makes me wonder if I could adapt the old heater core holes and drill two more for the refrigerant lines. I don't think I can route everything through the old blower motor hole since it was already out and I dont plan on removing the fender...

I'll take lots of pictures since I have a nice digital camera now and post them as things progress.

Scott, Why do you have to cut a hole? What is covering the big hole where your heater core was. Why not make a cover and pass your hoses thru it?

Hey Scott, I am thinking the same, make 2 other holes for the refrig lines and take the 2 grommetts out of that 3 1/2 in. piece and pass through the firewall. I dont think that round pass through is neccessary. I like how Hotrods lines go through the blower area, but my kit has the pre-fit hose lengths and wont reach, as I am sure yours do too.

TJS69, my car was originally an a/c car which has a different placement of firewall opening than a non a/c car (vertical hole in the firewall close to the head/ headers instead of horizontal).

The instructions in the Vintage kit direct you to cut a round hole in the firewall (with their template) for fitting their hose junction on original a/c cars. I haven't tried to dry fit the under dash unit yet to see if there are other viable hose routing options. I sure don't want to start cutting up my firewall if it can be avoided. I am pretty certain that I can engineer another hose routing, just have to figure out which is the best way. I may try to adapt the hoses like Steve Jack did if the stock hoses will reach and I don't have to remove the fender.

Scott,
I am currently installing my Vintage Air in an originally a/c equipped '69 car. I thought they would be similar, as I thought the old Evap. boxes were the same. Maybe not. Best of luck!!! Tom
