Has anyone done an ac to a stock standard heater conversion? I'm contemplating this and was wondering what I may be in for. I know that a small block heater box won't cover the ac hole entirely. So I would need to close up the hole some. Is a BB heater box bigger? Is the blower hole the same?

On non air conditioned Camaro the BB heater box is the same size as small block. It just has 2 holes drilled in the outer box for the different location of the heater core tubes. Someone is making a outer heater box for converting from air conditioning to non air conditioning. I cant remember who, sorry. Help me out Guys, some body here will know.

The blower motor hole is the only thing that is the same between an A/C and non A/C car. Inner, outer duct work is different, wiring is different. Once you swap the inner ductwork over, you will not have any connections to the outer vents in the dash as non A/C cars have astro vents that connect these dash vents to fresh air from under the cowl. A/C cars don't have the holes in the cowl for these vents. It's a major project, almost as hard as swapping a non A/C car to A/C.

graemlins/thumbsup.gif Good information guys. This forum is great. I would like to find out more information about what Dave said about the aftermarket heater box. I wonder if they address the issues Mark brings up about venting. Hopefully someone will chime in about who makes that box.

It's made by American Grafiti. It replaces the underhood evaporator box with a new low-profile box similar to the stock heater-only type. Do a search in the archives, there should be some information in there.

Carl, I've checked the archives and searched the internet. I've only found that it was refered to as the "Magic Box". Did you try one and if so how did it work?

Here it is:

Note that the person that did this had troubles with where the heater hose connections were located on the box. Theres a reason why only one of the hoses goes thru the factory A/C box. If both did theres no room between the box and the inner fender to put the hose on. graemlins/beers.gif
