crowenate Jan 29th, 04, 08:02 AM I thought I would get more interest in vintage air units thatn 1 especially at these prices.Well 1 is better than none though. smile.gif
Brian Lewis Jan 29th, 04, 04:15 PM Some people wait til it actually gets hot before they consider an AC unit, I'm thinking ahead! Might try Bench Racing, I think thats usually where you find people who weren't exactly looking for one this second but would like to jump because of the price.
crowenate Jan 29th, 04, 04:16 PM Id say your right Brian,I figured alot more people would want to buy it now and have it installed by summer, especially since income tax time is right around the corner.Did you get my email Brian?
Brian Lewis Jan 29th, 04, 06:08 PM Which email? I mailed the check monday, did you get it? Didn't get an email from yea. Maybe a spam blocker caught the message...
gwbutch Jan 29th, 04, 08:24 PM I am still interested Nathan, but I've got a rotator cuff surgery coming up on Wednesday. :( After the surgery, I'll have plenty of time off work to decide if I want the front runner kit also. Thanks for the help with the shipping to Alaska. graemlins/beers.gif
crowenate Jan 30th, 04, 03:32 AM Hey Brian The email I sent you just said I got your check yesterday. You must have a heavy duty smap blocker, thats the first time Ive had that happen.:)But I do have a cheapazz server though so that could be it too.
butch,I hate to hear about that rotator cup, they are bad news when you tear one.My dad is going through physical therapy now for it,and my grand mother had to have both of hears operated on.She is done pretty good with hers.Just let me know when you get ready to order. And Ill help you out with shipping the best I can. Thanks for letting me know.
Tire Smoke 69 Jan 30th, 04, 06:50 AM gw, You will be real happy with your Vintage air in Alaska when you turn on the heat. Mine heats up my car almost instantly. It heats up faster than any vehicle I ever owned. We have had some cold nights here in Fla down in the low 40's and I have to keep turning it off because it get so hot inside the car. I have not had much of a chance to use the air yet...but summer will be here soon enough. graemlins/sad.gif
crowenate Jan 30th, 04, 08:40 AM Dan,thanks for letting them know about your VA unit Im sure he will put that heat to good use in alaska. And if you get ready to buy a front runner kit or ever get another va unit let me know. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
gwbutch Jan 30th, 04, 08:13 PM Hey Dan, great! That is nice to know. I wasn't even thinking about heat. I don't think I'll be in Alaska forever, so I thought it would be a good idea to have A/C when I'm in the lower 48. I moved up here from Florida, and I'll probably be back there some day. I really seam to be into extremes. Florida/Alaska, stock '69 Camaro with 327 Auto/'69 Camaro with Cal-Tracs, 550 hp/383 ci, TKO-600 (maybe!). Life is so fun. So many things to do, places to go, people to see, cars to rebuild, and rotator cuffs to fix.

crowenate Feb 4th, 04, 11:10 AM Well I must have put the vintage air deal together a little to early in the year.I guess the weather need to warm up some before you guys want air conditioners. :D Even if you guys dont want them now let me know when you get ready for them and Ill work you up some kind of deal. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Steve W Feb 4th, 04, 05:01 PM Neither one of my convertibles has a/c and I have been thinking seriously about it. I have a 68 Camaro, and from what I'm told, the stock Astro Ventilation makes it easier to install.
I would have to have the work done, as I don't have the time, space, tools or talent to do a job like that myself. graemlins/clonk.gif I will try to get labor quotes and let you know.
Do you have the setup for a 66 GTO, or is this offer just for Chevys?
crowenate Feb 5th, 04, 06:21 AM HEy,
On the gto you would have to go with the gen2 system,it cools better but you have to use VA controls instead of your stock ones and you have to fab up your own firewall cover. The deal is good for any vintage air parts. The gen2 system runs around 950 depending on which options you chose. As far as installation. It should cost you no more than 500.00 at the most to install it.Its a shame you aint close to where I live.Starting march Im going to install the VA sure fit units for 300.00 if they buy them from me.The are pretty strait forward if you follow the directions step by step. smile.gif
crowenate Feb 5th, 04, 06:24 AM Brian I tried to email you and it got sent back, but I forgot about your extra heavy duty spam blocker.Anyway I ordered the kit and they dont have it in stock so they have to build it,the bad news is it will be 10-12 days before it ships, sorry.I did find out one thing I didnt know about vintage air. They dont stock much at all, that is why it takes a couple weeks usually before you receive it.The build them as they are ordered. It saves on space but it sucks when your on the receiving end.Ill let you know as soon as it ships.
Brian Lewis Feb 5th, 04, 07:23 AM Thanks! Luckily its still cold here smile.gif
In any case, sounds like the mail server your ISP uses is still on a major spam server blacklist, thats a bummer for you, because others who have spam filters who compare against RBL lists will also not receive your emails. Wish I was near you, I'd pay you the $300 to install, wow what a deal!
crowenate Feb 5th, 04, 09:45 AM Yea that 300.00 is a great deal.I still dont understand why your the only one my emails wont go through.Ive sent thousand's of emails and Ive never had that poblem before.Oh well atleast we can communicate back and forth here.
poloz28 Feb 7th, 04, 01:46 PM how long will this deal go on for? i will want it soon, but not yet. i have a 69 couple non factory AC, the kit is $900 ready to rock and roll?
Paul
crowenate Feb 7th, 04, 02:07 PM I am hoping to have the orders in by march 1st And the kit for your car is 896.00+shipping and shippingis around 45-50.00.Like I say Id like to end it March 1st but I could extend it a couple weeks. Thanks for your interest.
MStennes Feb 7th, 04, 05:08 PM I have a 69 convertable hmm what do I need to do, other than convince my wife why I need to dump another 10,000.00 in the car?
Mike
crowenate Feb 7th, 04, 06:24 PM The easiest thing to do is sneek it in a little at a time instead of 10 grand at once:)Im sure she would go for good cold air in the summer and good heat in the winter:)And you cant beat the deal 896.00+shipping.Just tell her its a envestment instead of spending:)Good luck

neverending Feb 10th, 04, 07:02 AM When you retain your stock controls how do you switch from heat to a/c? Does vintage air use a heater core, or is it heated some other way. Also is the sure fit kit you are selling the complete kit or just the evaporator kit. Any help you guys can offer I would appreciate it.
crowenate Feb 10th, 04, 07:15 AM Hey,
The sure fit is a complete kit all you have to do is recharge it.And the heat exits at the floor. And there is a heater core in the evaporator and it works just like your factory heat did. Thanks for your interest
CFunK Feb 13th, 04, 09:51 PM Does it requre the stock heater core?
CFunK Feb 13th, 04, 09:51 PM Does it requre the stock heater core?
crowenate Feb 14th, 04, 09:48 AM Thanks for your interest. The Vintage air evaporator has a heater core built in and it works the same way as your stock heater core the hoses from your engine run in through the firewall and hook to the evaprator just like the refridgerant lines.
CFunK Feb 14th, 04, 11:56 AM I assume the blower cover on the firewall needs to come off to route the lines, correct?
The reason I ask is my heater core has a leak and needs to be replaced. I am not thrilled with having to pull the fender to replace the core.
crowenate Feb 14th, 04, 02:09 PM Thats correct they supply you a new cover with the holes for the hoses to go through.I lik it better plus it gives mor room in the engine bay.
CFunK Feb 14th, 04, 07:49 PM So what you are saying is "Yes, you will have to pull the fender and replace the blower cover to install the VA kit". Correct?
crowenate Feb 15th, 04, 08:42 AM If it isnt a factory air car you wont have to take the fender off.If I remember right you can take it off without even taking tha inner fender loose.Ill check to make sure and get back with you.
CFunK Feb 15th, 04, 06:21 PM Yes please check and let me know. It is NOT a factory air car.
crowenate Feb 16th, 04, 10:54 AM Well I called VA to make sure what you have to do and I was wrong you do have to take the fender off.Im sorry for the mistake.I figured at worst you had to take the inner fender loose of off.But I guess not.
CFunK Feb 17th, 04, 06:11 AM I susptected that was the case. Thanks for checking.
Rons68 Feb 17th, 04, 07:07 AM CFunk, you shouldn't have to pull your fender to replace your heater core. I replaced the heater core on my non-A/C '68 by removing the inner heater box under the dash. There are studs on it that go through the firewall; you just need to remove the nuts on them and pull the inner box.
CFunK Feb 17th, 04, 12:42 PM Interesting. Anyone have more toughts on using this method to replace the heater core?
The nuts are on the firewall side, correct? How were you able to get to the one "under" the passenger fender, much less replace it without pulling the fender?
Chevy Kid Feb 17th, 04, 01:23 PM I have replaced the heater core in my 67 and I didn't have to pull the fender. The nuts you see from under the hood are the only ones required to remove the heater box inside.
Tim
CFunK Feb 17th, 04, 01:27 PM So I don't necessarily have to pull all of the nuts. Just the 5 I can see? I assume that will give me enough room to pull back the box under the dash and remove the core?
crowenate Feb 18th, 04, 04:29 PM Hey,
I thought you was asking If you had to remaove the fender to install the vintage air kit,I knew you didnt have to remove it for the heater core.Sorry for the misunderstanding.
CFunK Feb 19th, 04, 01:25 PM Actually, my VA question snowballed into the hearter core question.
I am trying to decide wether to just replace the heater core or buy and install the VA kit.
I am still on the fence since the fender has to be pulled to install the VA kit.
Rons68 Feb 20th, 04, 02:45 AM Has anyone ever removed the front lower fender extension and successfully removed the inner fender well without removing the fender ? If you could get the inner fender well off, you could remove the heater box from the firewall.
Brian Lewis Feb 22nd, 04, 02:05 PM Cfunk, I would just pull the fender. Although I have done it 3 times now on my 69 camaro in the past year, its actually a very simple job without even using the air rachet!
Remove Hood
Remove battery and tray
Remove Grill/Bumper
Remove lower fender
Remove about 8 bolts holding inner fender to radiator support and to cowl
Pull fender forward and then off car!
Just did it this weekend, removed both front fenders and header panel in about 1 hour TOTAL and thats with farting around taking my time! (Although my grill and bumper were already off)
Reason I did it is because I also had to remove my American Graphiti AC Delete box and get the car ready for the Vintage Air AC I bought from the group buy! Should be here soon!
stope4 Feb 22nd, 04, 03:31 PM On a non-ac car, what does VA do to block the astroventilation holes in the firewall?
Rons68 Feb 23rd, 04, 08:43 AM There are platic covers that are supplied with the sure-fit kit to cover the vent holes in the firewall. They didn't fit very well IMO. I cut some out of light gauge metal, formed them to fit the holes, and used the three screw holes in each one to attach them. I also put a bead of seam sealer around each one before screwing them down.
crowenate Feb 25th, 04, 02:03 PM Hey guys, sorry I havent been here in awhile but Ive been so busy I havent had much time for anything. It looks like everyone answered those questions pretty good. Thanks for the help guys. And Brian is right taking a fender off and putting it back on isnt that hard at all.To tell you the truth Id rather do that than replace a heater core anyday:)
guys theres still some time to get in on the deal.I dont have to have the payment by march !st but Id like to know for sure how many of you all that want to get in on the deal. And dont forget VA has the best serpintine system around and I can give a deal on it also. Thanks for all the interest.
