I have the Heater Core unit removed from under the dash of '69, which was a pain enough as I had to peal back the right front fender to get to all the nuts. Now that unit is pulled away from the fire wall, I can't figure out how to get the actual Core out of the interior housing. Any advice is appreaciated.

not quite clear on what your asking. are you saying you have the engine side box off the firewall? if so, i'm pretty sure you still need to take the interior side box out to get to the core. hate to tell you, but you didn't need to take the engine side box or the fender off to change the core. the core is mounted with screws and a metal plate to the interior side box, and it drops out from inside. hope that helps a little anyway.

Sounds like he already got the interior box out.
Basically you have to just start taking that sucker apart, remove any screw you see and it will eventually come apart. The heater core is held in by two brackets INSIDE that clamp the core essentially in the center of that air box.

Thanks for the replies. The "air box" is down from under the dash interior. The nuts on the engine side of the firewall need to come off in order to pull the air box away on the inside of the car. Now that box is away from the dash (but awkward to move around) it's tuff to get to the actual core. I see the 2 clamps holding the core in the box. Do they just pry off? Or there a trick to getting this out of there?

Any hints on getting to the blower motor while I'm in there? Thanks.

Blower motor is under the passenger fender. If you plan to replace that you need to remove the fender, wouldn't recommend trying to remove inner fender, just remove whole thing, only takes about 30-45 minutes to remove.
The two copper u shaped brackets that hold the heater core in there have a screw at each end of the bracket, so 4 total screws, you need to undo these screws. Might be on the opposite side of the core. Like I said, you have to basically take the whole box apart..

Hey guys, maybe a dumb question but would removing the heater core make for a cooler running 350 sb? The reason I ask is the car will sometimes hit 230* in traffic.

Nope, won't make any difference at all; warm-weather operating temperature is solely a function of the radiator's heat rejection capability and the airflow through it. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I would think, IF YOU CAN STAND IT, that turning the heat on in the car would help cool the engine down as you would desipate the hot coolant going through the heater core.

Blowing the hot air into the passenger compartment will help ever so slightly with the cooling. Now, can you stand the heat when it is already hot outside?
