I'm going to put a Vintage Air unit in my 69 SS 350.
The alternator is on the passenger side (stock) but I think it would be a cleaner installation (AC) to move the alternator to the driver's side and put the AC compressor on the passenger side. It's a long water pump also. Does anyone have any experience with this or know how difficult it is to put the alternator on the driver's side. Thank in advance!

I'm running into a similiar dilema. I received my Vintage Air system already, I run a passenger side Alternator. The Alan Grove Components 119L kit to mount the compressor on the driver side WILL NOT fit my Hedman Headers (clearance issue) so I am trying to figure out a solution to this problem. I don't think placing the compressor on the passenger side is any 'cleaner' because the hose will still go across the driver side, to the inner fender and then under the radiator support to hook into the evaporator coil on the driver side, so you are going to have the hoses going across both sides no matter what.
I was looking for an alternative bracket and March Performance doesn't seem to offer anything to mount that compressor on the driver side and nothing to mount the alternator on the driver side either in a V Belt configuration/Long water pump! Alan Grove seems to have some brackets but they still seem to have the clearance issue with the Hedman Header for some reason. Not looking forward to spending $$$ to switch to Serpentine yet!

After looking at every website possible it seems my only solution is to get Alan Grove to modify this bracket to clear the header tube or pay someone locally to modify it for me. Basically they didn't consider the first cylinder header tube so it needs about 1/2" x 1" section cut out to clear this tube. If I was running a manifold it would be fine, but these headers and probably many others would run into a similiar issue with this bracket even with the 2.25" spacers. Btw thats another thing I need to modify, to make it work with the stock power steering bracket I have to get one of the spacers cut as well.
Other options seem to be to upgrade to the Proline Alternator/Compressor bracket that Vintage Air offers for $79 more, this mounts them both on a bracket between the valve covers. But I can't imagine how you would safely route your upper radiator hose!

I bought the march pully set for my 67. The car had the long water pump, alt. mounted on the passenger side. Two months later added vintage air, compressor to be mounted on the driver side. They sent every thing to mount on the passenger side! Got that straight with them.Anyway I had to modify the brackrt to clear the header,by grinding a bit off yhe bottom. The hoses don't look bad.I dressed them up with a braided hose kit.I am hapy with the set up! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Mike, yea I just made a cardboard 'version' of the bracket you describe so that I can figure out what needs to be cut out of these bracket for it to clear the header tube properly. Sounds like you ran into the same problem. This stuff is pretty thick steel, 1/4" THICK!! Way overboard for a compressor bracket. Anyways I didn't know if I could grind it away myself or maybe have a machine shop adjust it for me. Guess I could whip out my grinder and go at it, but I wanted to see what Vintage/Alan had to say about this bracket setup before adjusting it.

Crowenate, I think its only one version of this bracket, the instructions mention headers, manifolders, and power steering pumps, so its suppose to be a fit all but seems to have clearance issues with most headers. Not sure why they don't just modify the way they cut the bracket so that it always clears, not that there isn't enough fricken steel just to hold a compressor in place...
