Ready to buy my GMPP 350 H.O. in the next few weeks. I found Summit and Scoggin Dickey to have the best price with shipping figured in. Any others worth checking out?Is it worth it to go to a local dealer and haggle? I know will get hammered on sales tax if i buy locally here since its something like 8% or 9%.

Shop around for the best prices first and add in the shipping charge as well. Shipping is truck freight, where you have to unload the truck and get the motor to your garage.

Then go to your dealer and see if he'll beat the price. With the dealer you won't have to pay shipping charges. You'll still need to get it to your garage.

My local dealer can always beat the prices that I've shopped around for.

Sallee Chevrolet maybe.... I didn't check the shipping and all. 350 H.O. $3990

I was also gonna suggest going to the local dealer first.

Scrogin-Dickey (better check on the spelling) has pretty pricing. I have a buddy of mine that bought a 350 long block from them for his '73 Vette. He is very happy with the motor and the service. If you are interested, let me know, I can get you the 800 phone number.

Depending on what part of the country you are in, I would also check with Jeg's. A buddy of mine bought a ZZ4 from them late last year and was cheaper including shipping than paying taxes locally.

Checked Jegs and Sallee before i started this thread. All higher than Scoggin Dickey and Summit. Summit is $2510 to my door,S/D is $2455 to local truck terminal. I dread going to the local dealers.

These guys have some decent prices. I have not bought from them, but I know guys that have had good luck with them.

What's wrong with the local dealers?
Try out of town if you don't like the local ones. Go to Lafayette or New Orleans. ;)

Many of the folks in our local club hop down to Oregon to buy from Sallee! Wait for one of their crate engine sales...you won't find one cheaper anywhere else ;)

Shoddy -

Looks like there are seven Chevy dealers within 20 miles of Baton Rouge. I'd call each one and see if they will sell you an engine at wholesale or "jobber" pricing. GMPartsDirect price is $2330 for the 350 HO, which is actually the dealer cost (I checked the system). I would think you'd find a dealer local who would sell it to you for close to that (my local guy will go $200 over, or $2530.

The reason I would try to find one local is that in the event you have a problem (and it does happen even on the crates), you have someplace to go.
