Anyone know the difference between the 97 and 98 fan? I am assuming the 97 is the 2 speed model (it costs more) but I don't know. I would like to be sure before I order one.

Ya' know, I was gonna post the same question. Rock Auto has the '98, RF64, for $137.79 and the '97, RF56, for $170.79. I haven't been able to find an answer.

The 97 is a two speed.

OGER, did you go with the 1 speed or 2 speed fan?
Anyone else have suggestions on the matter?
Thanks,
Guy

The '98 single speed fan works great!

I got the 2spd. In my car (67 Nova) the installation is going to be tough. The absolute minimum thickness you can go on the 2spd is 5in. The fact that the fan is offset in the shroud and the motor is offset in the chassis may allow me to get the fan motor far enough to one side of the pulley to work. The shroud on the MKV111 fan exactly fits the radiator on the Nova so I can't make any adjustments there. The reason I got the 2spd is that my combo really shouldn't be that hard to cool except when the air is on and and I am idleing. I intend to hook it up like the factory and only use the high side when the air is on.

Guys,
I think a resistor could be switched into the 98 fan circuit to provide a low speed option. It would be easier on the alternator too.

Just make sure that you use a 1.5 watt resistor or larger if you do use a resistor to build a voltage divider network for a two speed set on the '98 single speed fan.

Guy~ In my opinion a single or two speed really doesnt make that much of a difference unless you are running A/C or want to have your manual override switch to supply full battery voltage to the fan under worst case scenario.

But I do think that hthe single speed 98 fan is cheaper up front....

Were out tuning on my friends ProCharged 69 yesterday and as soon as the computer turns that fan on it drops from 180 degrees (turn on temp) to 170 degrees (turn off temp)in a minute or so. We've been stuck in traffic for 15 minutes or so before on a 105 degree day and it was the same scenario. That 406 won't go over 180 degrees even sitting.

After much playing I have come to the conclusion that it ain't gonna fit in the Nova. I guess one of the Vettes will get an upgrade. Anyone know of a thinner model besides a Black Magic?

You know you can trim 1" to 1.5" off the shroud, right? I think you said the Nova's have less room than the first Gen Camaro's, but I've even fit them on big block/long water pump 69 Camaro's with some trimming of the shroud.

Try the 2 speed Tarus fan out. Works killer and can get them at pick n pull for 25 bones! The shroud dept I think is about an 1 to 1.5 inches shallower than the mark 8.

Jody, The 97 allows 3/4in at the most or the center hub with hit the radiator.
The Tarus fan I got is the single speed model and it is even bigger than the MK-V111

What year, model Tarus? I have 4 1/2in max.
