Theres no hole at all in the firewall? If that's the case someone welded it closed before you bought it. You can't have an A/C car without a heater from the factory. An AC car will have the letter E following the number 2 on the 4th line of the trim tag. You could get a heater delete car but even these had the holes cut in the firewall with blankoff plates bolted over them. A heater delete car has the letter H following the number 2 on the trim tag. What you need to put the A/C back depends on how much of it was removed. First you have to cut the holes in the firewall. Note that A/C and non A/C firewall openings are different and you can't put a heater only setup on an A/C firewall, nor can you put an AC setup on a heater only firewall. As a minimum you will need the compressor and mounting brackets, condensor, dryer, hoses, Evaporator and it's housing with the blower motor. If the inside ductwork is missing you will need that, as well as the housing that sits below the glove box with the heater core inside it. Are your slide controls missing as well? Your looking at well over $1000 to do it "correctly". If originality isn't important to you a Vintage A/C setup would be cheaper. They run about $900 and come with all the parts you will need.

Sounds like it might have had a dealer installed "comfortron" A/C system put into a heater delete car. Does your trim tag have either an E or H letter code after the number 2 on the 4th line?
The A/C unit would have hung under the dash and was completely self contained. The only thing in the engine compartment was the compressor, dryer and condenser.

1E=(A01)Tinted glass (All)
2E=(C60) Air Conditioner
2L=(M20) 4-speed floor shifter
2G=(D55) Console Front Compartment
The car originally had A/C so the A/C hoses should not have run through the firewall into the car. That must have been done by a previous owner. There should have already been a cutout in the firewall about 10" high by 6" wide for the air to enter the car and two small 1" holes just inboard of the hinges for the heater core tubes, and of course the 6" diameter hole for the blower motor up under the fender. The "fiberglass suitcase" containing both the blower motor and evaporator got bolted over this opening. Look at the picture in my signature. It's a 69 but the engine compartment A/C stuff is almost identical to a 67's. The only obvious difference is your compressor will be on the passenger side.
