on a 89 2.8L RS i think the a/c works its just no cold air coming out. when i turn it on it comes on but no cold air. what do i need to look for to make sure that i get some cold air? i had a guy look at it he said it needs to be recharged. what about the cold air what will they do?

You ned to look at two items. 1) When A/C is selected, does the A/C compressor clutch engaged and the coolant fan turn on? If A/C clutch does not engaged, system may need evacuated, leak-tested, orifice changed, and charged, if no leaks. If fan doesn't come on, relay/fuse maybe blown.
2) If A/c Clutch comes on, is there air coming from the vents? If not, either the vacuum line for vent motor control from the intake manifold is broken, missing, or the system has a big leak. Or maybe the blower motor doesn't work, bad fuse, resistor block broken, blower ground wire is unplugged.
Get A Haynes manual for the car and study it.
