This may be a dumb question but I really don't know the answer. I'm hoping at least one of you experts out there can help.

When looking at the assembly manual for the installation of ac, UPC C60, it shows shims being required on the back side of the compressor. What are these shims for. I just installed my brackets and ac compressor without the shims and everything seems to line up fine.

By the way, my car is a 68 coupe, 396/325, auto with power steering.

The shims were released on an "as required" basis to compensate for tolerances; if there was a gap between the rear of the compressor and the bracket, it was filled with shims before tightening the bolts to avoid stressing the brackets. If you didn't have a gap, you don't need the shims. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks John. Exactly what I was looking for. I guess I need to loosen the bolts and see if there is a gap. I have not tightened the front bolts so the compressor still has play.
